OTF title numbers declining? And some sites not registering visits.
Is it just me or are some of my OTF Numbers declining? I could have sworn I had some bigger numbers on 3 sites a regularly visit, and all of the sudden I'm in jeopardy of losing the title. Also some sites (yahoo.com is one example) don't seem to be registering visits.

There comes a time in every boy or girl's life when they must learn about how the world works. Your mom and I were going to wait until you were a little older, but certain... events... have forced us to have that conversation now. You see, 10 days ago you earned your first points on OneTrueFan. We know, we know. Everyone is doing it. It's on the MTV. The celebrities tell you it's cool. Peer pressure. We don't care why you earned those points... we did it too when we were your age.
So yeah, now is the time that you learn that your points don't last forever.
Fandom is an active process, my friend. You don't just click a button, claim you like a site and then walk away. Fans visit and share content on a regular basis. No fair-weather friends here. So in five days, those points you earned on DOMAIN.TLD are going to age out of the system. If you're the One True Fan of that site, you could lose your title if you drop enough points. So get back there and make some noise.
To recap:
- Your fan score is a 14-day total of the love you show a site
- After 14 days, your earliest points are removed from your 14-day score
- Your cumulative site and OTF scores never decrease
- When we die, our bodies become the grass
- The antelope eat the grass
- And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life
I'm so glad we had this conversation. Hugs not drugs.

Inappropriate? On yahoo.com yesterday I was at 129 points, and OTF... tweeted to get my 5 points, lost the title... re-gained the title. Now I've lost the title again and both me and the other person (the current OTF) have 128 points. Perfect example of this. I've also noticed significant point decreases on lifehacker, engadget, and makeuseof.
I’m notgonnacry

Inappropriate?Your OTF points die on a rolling 14 day period. This means that the points you got on Oct. 5 would have disappeared today.
They do this to keep people going back to those sites and to give others a chance at earning the OTF title. I was at about 4,500 points on my favourite site, I am now down to 266.
To read a bit more about how points work see http://otf.me/4Pc.
I'll leave your other problem in the hands of the pros.I’m unconcerned

Inappropriate?Torching (may I call you "Torching"?), Sean did a good job explaining what's happening with points and I've got nothing really to add there (high five, Sean!).
We definitely need to let people know what's going on with points, because you're not the first to ask me "WTF?!?". I'm thinking about sending an email the first time you lose points that explains the circle of life. Perhaps with sock puppets ;)
Regarding some sites like Yahoo not registering points. It may be related to the fact that we "greylist" a number of social networks and search engines, which means the bar shows up but we've turned off auto-checkin by default. Can you tell me if the checkbox is checked on the sites that aren't registering visits?I’m confident

Inappropriate?@Eric Is the roll over on the 14th day or the 15th day?
I have a feeling that sending an email on the first roll over is not enough warning. Why not day 11 or 12 after the first points are earned? This will give players a little heads up that it is going to happen. If I had't read Tilly's post before it first happened, I would have been very upset that I had lost 4k on one site even if I had read the email beforehand. I would have been like "Oh no! All that work... click "Damn! THEY ARE GONE!!! That sucks man." With a few days notice, I would be out there building up points again to defend the site.I’m supporting overweight rabbits!

Dude! Excellent idea! Added to the to-do list ;)

Inappropriate? We shall shortly begin sending the following email 10 days after the first time a user earns points on OneTrueFan:

Inappropriate? This is awesome... Now that I'm aware, it just makes me want to try harder. Nice work.
BTW yahoo does have the auto check-in enabled and at the moment it has both me and the other person at 129 points. This is the only site that I've noticed this happening, so I can live with it. I'm not exactly a big fan of yahoo anyway :)I’m awesome

Inappropriate? One day I have 170 points on a site, and the next day I have 105. What's up with that?

Where are my point disappearing to??.I’m sad, confused, & frustrated

Oh noes! Don't be sad! See Eric above explanation about why your points rolled away
